Having Fun In Recovery
Does having fun in recovery seem impossible? Well put simply, it is not. Rehab can be fun.

Getting clean may not be fun all the time, but when you choose a treatment center that gives you the option of different activities and events, you will be having fun in recovery!

When I decided to stop using, and I made the tough decision to go to rehab, I thought it was going to be the worst time of my life. Instead I got to go hiking, snowboarding, skiing, tubing, kayaking, and a bunch of other outdoor activities.

Making Music

I also got to make music in the built-in recording studio. I got to take classes for college credit. I still had therapy and peer process groups, but it wasn’t all rehab stuff all the time. I made some of the best friends I’ve ever had because we got to do real-life things together and experience a life without drugs together.

I had never volunteered for anything or really helped people in a selfless way. With the staff, a lot of us got to help people in the Taos, New Mexico community. I now have a new definition of fun, and I’ve been volunteering in my hometown since leaving rehab. I feel a sense of pride and fulfillment I didn’t know before, especially while using.

Having Fun In Recovery

I was having fun in recovery. I never thought it was possible before going, but it was and I would do it again in a heartbeat. I will stay clean instead, and help other people who are trying to get clean and change their lives the way I did.

If you are ready to make changes in your life, just know that having fun in recovery is a reality, not only while you’re in rehab, but afterwards too.

I still volunteer, ski, snowboard, hike, mountain bike, and make music in my new life of recovery. I play on a sober softball team, and I am trying to start a sober bowling league. Believe me, having fun in recovery is much better than being miserable in a life of drugs and alcohol.
